Welcome

I’m Col Lloyd and I provide documentary wedding photography, based in beautiful Lancashire, UK.

Having been a studio, commercial and live music photographer for many years, I have experienced some incredible times and been privileged enough to capture these moments as images for people to enjoy for years to come. Capturing special and emotional moments is what gets me up each day and keeps my passion and energy for the amazing medium of photography well and truly alive.

This passion for capturing the special, the emotional and the magical, led me to documentary wedding photography. I wanted to re-tell the story of the incredible day through my images, so that it can be relived after the fact and also importantly, re-felt.

The wedding day is such an amazing time, but it also can be busy with lots going on and many small, but important and emotional things that happen can be missed. When captured and formed into beautiful images, these small but significant times, moments and interactions between people who are there to celebrate the day, can be experienced by the wedding couple for years to come.

I believe your day should have my undivided attention and therefore I only book in a few weddings each year. This gives me the required time to meet and discuss your day with you and also to ensure I have the time to carefully craft your photographs. This also means you will not have a long wait for your images, which I know can frustrate. Once the wedding day is over, I start on the process of creating the images and will not shoot another wedding until your photographs are completed and delivered to you.

So please have a look around the website and see what you think. In addition to wedding photography I also provide bespoke portraits in my custom studio in Chorley. If I can be of any assistance, even for a casual chat about what I can do for you, don’t hesitate to head over to the Get in Touch page and give me a call or send a message.

What is Documentary Wedding Photography

A good question.. It is telling the story of your day through photographic images. Rather than producing pre-planned, scripted photographs, documentary photography captures the day as it unfolds, in a natural and candid way.

I will be unobtrusive and I will not interfere in your day. I will be observing and capturing it quietly, for you to relive and re-enjoy.

With the images I produce my aim is to create something you will cherish and that will invoke the emotions and joy of the day for years to come.

The Process

As well as being a very exciting time, planning and organising a wedding can be very busy and sometimes a little stressful. The last thing as a photographer I want to do is add to this, so I try and keep things as simple as possible and keep the process of commissioning your wedding photography as stress free and open as I can.

Initial Meeting

Initial Meeting

Deciding on your wedding photographer is such an important decision, so I want you to be as comfortable with your choice as possible. To this I always believe the best first step is to arrange a meeting between us. I will bring some examples of my wedding portfolio and style and explain how I go about shooting your day. (basically as unobtrusively as possible!)

This meeting can also be a good time to talk about which parts of the wedding you would like me to photograph. However, there’s no rush for this decision – it can always been decided on later.

Booking & Planning

Booking & Planning

If after our meeting you’re happy and comfortable with me capturing your wedding ( which is always an absolute honour for me! ) we can make an initial booking with a small deposit. I’ll ask for your wedding date and venue and also, if you know at that point of a date for any possible rehearsal you might be having.

I take capturing each wedding very seriously and I always put in as much work as possible beforehand, to make sure that for you, the photography of your wedding is as easy and straightforward for you as possible. Therefore I always like to attend the wedding rehearsal if possible, where I can get an idea of the plan for the day, talk to the person conducting the ceremony and feel out the logistics and positions for the day. I don’t photograph a wedding every week, as I find it doesn’t leave me enough time to dedicate solely to your day. So you can be sure your special day gets the special attention to detail it deserves.

The Wedding Day

The Wedding Day

On the day itself, ideally the way I capture weddings is for you to hardly notice I’m there. This day is about you and your partner, not about a photographer getting in the way or saying who goes where. I’ve chosen my equipment very carefully to allow to me to quietly go about your day, without tripods, lighting or large bags getting in the way.

My aim is to capture the story of the day as it unfolds, in a natural and therefore very real way. The special, often small, interactions between the people there, the moments that matter and the joy and love that the married couple and the people attending experience. The only pre-planned shoot is usually just the signing of the register, as this can’t be photographed at the time of signing. Other than this, I will quietly capture the beautiful and special moments as they happen.

Delivery of Photographs

Delivery of Photographs

After the day, when the photographs are ready, I will get in touch with you and provide an online, secure portfolio, where you can view the images in the comfort of your home and at your own leisure. It’s always an exciting time and from this portfolio, you can view, share and download the images so you friends and family can view it also.

The final part of the process is the physical supply of the images. I will provide them digitally, presented in a beautiful wooden box containing a personalised usb drive. We can also discuss at this stage, if we have not done so already, if you would like a wedding album printing. This is an important decision and something I’m very passionate about getting right for each couple. I work with a very carefully selected, highly regarded wedding album printers and there are many options and styles to choose from to ensure you get something you will treasure for generations to come.
